The African Diáspora comprises the vast influence of Afro culture around the globe as one generation after another has dispersed across continents. Its impact has coursed through art, entertainment, politics, faith, and beyond in subtle and overt fashion alike. NoMBe taps into this current with his own identity and artistry, diverting soul, R&B, psychedelia, electronic, chillwave, dance, and world stylings into a flowing sonic tributary.

After quietly collecting over 1 billion streams and inciting unanimous critical praise, the singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer absorbs energy from 60 years of Afro-inspired music and pays homage to it by delivering a vibrant, vital, and original vision in the form of his third full-length LP, DIÁSPORA [Position Music].

“For me, this album celebrates joy,” he states. “It takes all of these different influences and combines them into something for everybody to hopefully enjoy. While traveling through Brazil, I came across the word ‘Diáspora’ and realized that soul, funk, disco, bossa nova, samba, and all of this music comes from the history of black people as they were dispersed throughout the world. This record speaks to eras of influences that have shaped modern music and black music. I’ve never been prouder of a project.”

He wrestled with the aftermath of a tumultuous breakup, soothing the uncertainty by immersing himself in music. He listened to West African, Caribbean, and Brazilian dance music, striking a balance between “new disco and indie world music.” In the end, NoMBe is expanding the DIÁSPORA and leaving his mark with the album.

“When people hear this project, I really want them to dance,” he leaves off. “The meat and potatoes of the album are the melodies and groove. It’s fun art. I want you to feel like you found a really special album you can listen to over and over again.”
